After a thorough national search, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Carla Panzella has been named Vice Provost for Student Affairs, effective June 1, 2024.
As you may know, Carla has been serving as Interim Vice Provost since January 2024. Prior to that assignment, she served as the Dean of Students since August 2021 and as Associate Vice Provost since December 2022.

Today, I am delighted to announce that, after a robust national search, Michele V. Manuel has been named the new U.S. Steel Dean of the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering, effective September 1, 2024.

After a comprehensive national search, I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Eboni M. Zamani-Gallaher has been named the new Renée and Richard Goldman Dean of the School of Education, effective May 1, 2024.
As you may know, since August 2023, Eboni has served as Interim Dean of the school, continuing its forward progress.

That timely theme was inspired by the many ways in which Higher Education has been at the forefront of engagement around respecting divergent viewpoints—and in establishing the important space for various viewpoints to continue to find opportunities for expression.

After nearly 20 years of advocating for students and the student experience at the University of Pittsburgh, Kenyon Bonner has notified me that he will step down from his role as vice provost for student affairs in December 2023 to become vice president and chief student affairs officer at the University of Virginia. The University of Virginia’s unique student self-governance, Honor System, and Academical Village will pose new and wonderful opportunities for him.

After 16 years leading the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC), Charles (Chuck) Perfetti has shared with me his decision to step down from his role as its director in August 2024. Over the years, he has worked effectively to build LRDC’s strengths in the learning sciences, notably growing neuroscience and child development research areas, while also increasing the LRDC’s research connections within the educational mission of the University.
