Transition in the University Center for Teaching and Learning

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to let you know that Michael Bridges, Executive Director of the University Center for Teaching and Learning (UCTL) has advised me that he will be retiring from the University effective June 30, 2025. In the time ahead, I plan to name an interim executive director as we consider timing of a search for a permanent leader.

Announcing the Appointment of the New Dean of the School of Law

January 8, 2025

Dear Colleagues,

Today, I am very pleased to announce that, after a comprehensive national search, Professor and Vice Dean Jerry Dickinson has been named the new dean of the School of Law effective January 15, 2025.

A Pittsburgh native, Jerry has built a national, international, and local reputation as a constitutional law scholar and civil rights lawyer. He has extensive litigation and transactional pro bono experience in civil rights and civil liberties.

Daren Ellerbee Transition

In January 2022, Daren Ellerbee joined the Office of the Provost (OTP) as the inaugural director of the University Educational Outreach Center (EOC), which is dedicated to building more equitable pathways for all students to gain the potential to enroll at the University of Pittsburgh or other selective colleges and universities. 

A New Role for Tiffany Gary-Webb: Provost Faculty Fellow

Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that Tiffany Gary-Webb, who began her work in our office as Special Assistant to the Provost for Race and the Social Determinants of Equity, Health and Well-being in 2021, will undertake a new assignment as a Provost Faculty Fellow, continuing her work with John Wallace, Vice Provost for Diversity and Development and the Faculty Diversity and Development team.

New Director of the Learning Research and Development Center

Dear Colleagues,

As you may remember, in October of 2023, Charles (Chuck) Perfetti shared his intention to step down from his long-standing and impressive role as director of the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC). I then launched a national search for his successor. I am very pleased to announce that, after a diligent search, I have appointed Elizabeth Votruba-Drzal to serve as the LRDC’s next director, effective September 1, 2024.
