Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to announce that Tiffany Gary-Webb, who began her work in our office as Special Assistant to the Provost for Race and the Social Determinants of Equity, Health and Well-being in 2021, will undertake a new assignment as a Provost Faculty Fellow, continuing her work with John Wallace, Vice Provost for Diversity and Development and the Faculty Diversity and Development team.
In her new role, Tiffany will work to create, implement, and evaluate career and professional development programming for Pitt faculty. Specific efforts will include her continued efforts to advance the work of the Race and Health Collaboratory, to lead the evaluation of the programs of the Race &… Initiative, and to help develop programs to expand Pitt’s global reach.
Tiffany is also a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and has served as Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Pitt’s Graduate School of Public Health. Beyond Pitt, she has also held faculty positions at several other top-tiered Schools of Public Health, including the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
She has spent more than 25 years working to understand the social/environmental determinants of chronic disease and implementing interventions to improve prevention and control. Her research program focuses on three defined areas: the social determinants of diabetes and obesity, interventions to improve diabetes outcomes for minority populations, and translation of research findings to practice and real-world evaluation. Tiffany has authored or coauthored more than 140 scientific publications, including journal articles, book chapters, and editorials.
Tiffany has held leadership positions in national organizations, including the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Council on Black Health (CBH).
Tiffany holds a BS from Pennsylvania State University; and an MHS and PhD from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Please join me in celebrating Tiffany’s new role in the Office of the Provost!
Regards,
Joe
