Vice Provost Role

As Vice Provost for Budget and Institutional Effectiveness, Don Elliott serves as a key member of the Provost’s executive leadership team, working closely with the Provost’s cabinet and the University’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer to strategically plan, develop, and implement initiatives that enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of academic and administrative operations. Elliott is responsible for overseeing various administrative functions, ensuring alignment with the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

Professional Biography

Don Elliott arrived at the University of Pittsburgh in July 2024. Prior to his time at Pitt, he served as a Chief Financial Officer with the Business Operations team at CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, where he successfully partnered with clients on operational excellence and strategic planning issues and steered financial administration, planning, budgeting, and compliance monitoring efforts.

Throughout his career, Elliott has held key leadership roles in project management, financial management, global operations, cost optimization, administrative oversight, compliance and risk management, change management, and strategic planning.

Elliott has extensive operations and financial leadership experience across a diverse portfolio of industries in the private, public and social sectors. He has held executive positions at Eaton Corporation (Global Operations Director), Lancaster County Commissioner’s Office (Chief Administrative Officer), Dana Corporation (Plant Manager), Bank of America (Vice President/Program Manager), and Wesley Family Services (Chief Operations Officer/Chief Financial Officer).

He received his bachelor’s degree in economics and Master of Business Administration from the University of Virginia. 

Among his extensive board experience, Elliott currently serves on the boards of Federal Prison Industries (presidential appointee) and the Upper Palmetto YMCA.  He was recently elected to the board of trustees of Averett University. 

Elliott is a Prosci-certified change manager.
