Dear Colleagues,
I am writing today to share the news that Vice Provost for Global Affairs Ariel Armony will have a new title effective July 1, 2022: Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs.
This adjustment in title, made in consultation with Chancellor Patrick Gallagher, reflects the evolution in Ariel’s position. While Vice Provost and Vice Chancellor titles are organizationally equivalent levels for positions within the Office of the Provost, the new title better reflects his university-wide responsibilities to oversee global affairs in the School of Medicine, as well as his addition to the Chancellor’s Senior Leadership Team. Ariel will continue to report to me.
To date, as Vice Provost and as Director of the University Center for International Studies (UCIS), Ariel has steered the University’s global engagement initiatives to grow international partnerships and foster real-world impact through global learning and research. Among many other initiatives, he has also worked to promote personalized education through the development of academic credentials; advanced faculty research opportunities through international studies centers; supported faculty diversity through the LatinX cluster hire; and hosted visiting international scholars and postdoctoral fellows. Under his leadership, in 2017, UCIS received the Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization from NAFSA: The Association of International Educators.
Please join me in congratulating Ariel as we look forward to further advancing Pitt’s global plan.
Best,
Ann
