The University of Pittsburgh publicly discloses whether each of its programs leading to professional licensure or certification, as defined below, meet the educational requirements of the state where the student enrolling is located or attests that they intend to seek employment, as required by Federal regulations (34 CFR 668.14(b)(32)(ii); 34 CRF 668.43 (a)(5)(v) and (C) and NC-SARA policy 5.2.
This disclosure applies to all program modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid.
What is a "program leading to professional licensure or certification"?
For purposes of these disclosures, a program leading to professional licensure or certification is an academic program that is designed, marketed, and/or advertised to meet the educational requirements
- For a specific license or certification; and
- The license or certification is required for employment in the occupation the program was designed to prepare students to enter.
This disclosure does not necessarily include programs that could lead to professional licensure, but are not specifically designed or advertised for that purpose, or where a professional license or certification, however potentially beneficial, is not necessary for employment in the field for which the program is designed to prepare students.
Does the program meet the educational requirements for licensure in my state?
Many programs at the University of Pittsburgh are intended to meet the education requirements to sit for licensure or certification in the state of Pennsylvania. Many of these programs may also meet educational requirements in states outside of Pennsylvania. However, completion of any program by itself does not guarantee licensure or certification in any state or territory.
Licensing requirements vary by state and are subject to change, as are other state laws or regulations that may impact licensure. Students should contact the licensing agency for the state or territory in which they intend to practice to confirm the most current requirements before beginning an academic program.
Students may only enroll in a program leading to professional licensure if, at the time of enrollment, the student physically resides in a state/territory where the program meets that state/territory’s educational requirements for licensure, or otherwise attests that they intend to seek employment in such a state/territory.
Any applicant to or student enrolled in an on-campus program will be considered to be located in Pennsylvania. Any applicant or student enrolled in an online or hybrid program will be considered to be located in the state associated with their home address as reported to the University and entered in the student information system.
Students enrolled in any program leading to professional licensure who relocate or plan to relocate to a different state for employment are responsible for ensuring that their program meets the educational requirements for that state. Before considering relocation, students should check with their school and that state's relevant licensing authority to ensure that their program meets the requirements. Upon relocation, students must notify the University of their change of address.
The University of Pittsburgh makes every effort to ensure information about educational requirements for licensure or certification information is current. However, state requirements may change at any time. Pitt urges all applicants to visit the board responsible for licensure or certification in any state in which they wish to obtain licensure or certification for the most current licensure or certification requirements.
