COVID Impact Statements 2024

March 5, 2024

Dear Colleagues:

As you likely know, in 2021 the Provost’s Memo on Revised Guidelines for the Annual Review of Faculty was updated to invite faculty, if they chose to do so, to provide information about the impact of the COVID pandemic on their work. The memo was subsequently revised in 2022 and 2023 to recognize a variety of broad and on-going challenges, beyond those specifically related to COVID, and to invite faculty to provide a statement related to those challenges in their annual review and promotion and tenure materials, if they wished.

Since the world is no less complicated today, and many challenges still exist – both directly and indirectly related to the COVID pandemic – I intend to extend the option for faculty to provide impact statements in their annual review materials and in their promotion and tenure applications. If you have any concerns with this approach, please let me know by Monday, March 11. If there are none, I will move forward with issuing an updated memo.

As always, I am more than happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

Regards,
Joe
